This DVD looks at the William Wallace story and explores historic Stirling.
Stirling today is a bustling city surrounded by lush pastures and gentle hills. It is inextricably linked with Sir William Wallace for it is here that he inspired the Scots in a battle that changed their destiny.
During the Anglo-Scottish Wars (the Wars of Scottish Independence) in 1297, William Wallace's army defeated a larger English army at the Battle of Stirling Bridge. This crucial victory helped Scotland's continuing fight for independence from the English and established Wallace as a knight and a Guardian of Scotland. Seven years after his defeat at the Battle of Falkirk in 1298, Wallace was captured and executed by the English in 1305.
This DVD visits sights in and around Stirling that were connected with Scotland's national hero. Attractions such as the National Wallace Monument and Stirling Castle are featured together with sights in Bannockburn, Falkirk, the Wallace Monument in Elderslie, and London. In addition other sights in Stirling such as the Stirling Smith Art Gallery and Museum and the University of Stirling are also shown in the DVD.
The DVD contains narration and light classical music.
The drawing on the front of the DVD sleeve, together with others shown in the DVD, are by celebrated artist Andrew Hillhouse.
